Alley Dock- LONG Back to the Dock
Просмотров 33519 часов назад
Being a CDL Driver may require you to make some very difficult backing maneuvers. Due to a lack of room, I had to back down a dead end road and up a road to the Dock.

California has the same test
Its a lot easier to slide those tandems all the way to the back, it eliminates the 10' swing sticking out. I use it almost always on 53' trailers getting into tight docks. ( room permiting) You dont have to worry about hitting that trailer on the blind side. I recommend you still get out of the rig and check but, you can hug close to the the trailer on the driver side , and put it in almost perfect every time. It really works for me.
Isn’t the pop out between 20 & 45psi?
Review your CDL drivers manual for your state. The psi for the pop out has changed under the new modernization test.
Easier said than done
this video helped me pass my test . i just wanna say thank you
Thank you for viewing and congratulations 🎉🍾 to you
Shouldn't have any issue passing a drug test to begin with, were literally talking the bare minimum. Pretty sure most all jobs run some form of drug test or they better, especially a job like this you should be aware and clean but yeah lol
Good jop ❤
Facts they they taught me offset in driving school I have not used it once and now I'm out in the field trying to learn how to alley dock they don't actually teach you how to drive they teach you how to pass the DMV test
Schneider trucking company lost a lawsuit for 47 million! CDL trucking Schools are not responsible for or are preparing students to hopefully succeed on the job.
What’s your favorite on the road food Steve ?
Hamburger😂. Most of the time, I ate what was in my lunch box or food from home.
❤❤❤❤
ill remember that
I’m struggling terribly with this maneuver 😩
Should take you 10 times to master this skill. Check out all my videos on this skill - to help you learn and understand the concept. Make sure your mirrors and Driver seat is properly adjusted for you. Hopefully your CDL instructor is giving you proper training.
Thank you! I saved this to watch repeatedly. My instructor helps, but not always. I'm short LOL and can't stick my head out the window and use my mirrors ALL the time.
Glad it helped!
Simulator Oh my fn god
My test is June 20th Wish me luck Thanks for the tips Trucker Steve
May you be successful during your CDL test. You can do this!
Thank God I'm not a truck driver
Not a bad job.
I play Xbox alley docking is no sweat😊
👍 that can be helpful.
No shit
Old news!!! Heard this 25 years ago.
Old news years ago but the FMCSA changed the rules to what we have now. In November 2024, back to way back when. I bet in time the rules will once again be changed.
Using drugs isn't my thing. But, I know plenty of small trucking companies particularly in the logging industry that don't drug test at all. Side note, trucking industry has gone completely to shit. Five more months for me and I'm out.
FK them Cdl’s ain’t no money in it….
It's not gone dum ass.you have to do sap only.but yes you have to change
All while, Mary Jane, is legal nationwide, mushrooms are in Oregon...
Marijuana is not legal nation wide
@@davidhouse6363 you're right, but it is legal in 24 states and D.C.
So what ain't no money un trucking ow days anyway !!!!!! Working for below minimum wages is crazy !!!!! They doing people a favor !!!!! As a truck driver you will loose everything you care about being out there on the road. Chasing a dollar..
Just gotta work for the right place or be an owner operator.
@@thesig301 Whats the right place? Most I ever made over the road as a solo company driver was 92k. Granted, I take a lot of time off but 92k is shit when you factor in the time away from your family, your health, the hours you work and all the shit regulations like this one.
@@Pilotend370 since when is $90k bad? Maybe if you live in a very high cost of living area like California then yes. If not, $90k is more than most people make, even more than most college graduates. I know UPS pays like $44/hr, free benefits and pension. Not even my engineer friends are making $90k…. Also how is this a bad regulation 😂 why should drug addicts be allowed to drive CDL? However they should take weed off the drug list.
@@thesig301 I have so many things to say but lets just start with the obvious. I work 70 hours consistantly between monday-saturday not counting the bullshit work i do off duty. A company over the road driver that makes 90k/year breaks down to roughly $23.50/hour if you factored in overtime after 40 hours like every other job over a period of say 44 weeks. So yeah, there is a serious pay issue for veteran drivers. It's obviously not about safety because if it was drivers would be paid a fair hourly wage. But, the industry would rather bring kids or flip flop wearing rookies into the industry to pay less money. The OO'S are the ones really suffering right now. Accidents will continue to increase because companies would rather not pay experienced drivers and rely on technology.
@@thesig301 Also. If FMCSA forces a speed limiter mandate when they get around to the final ruling I gurantee there will be a lot more of us leaving for good.
What are the similarities between this and a 28’ trailer. Can I use the same methods or is it going to be a little different? Sorry if it’s a dumb question but my company is going to be primarily using 28’ trailer’s.
The 28 ‘ Trailer reacts faster ( more quicker) the 48 or 53’ trailer reacts slower
The concept is the same. Just learn to react to the movement of the trailer. To me, it’s easier than a 48 0r 53’ Trailer
Passed mine with this check list.. only different was a 10 speed manual for no restrictions on Cdl and also used a 12 point brake check.. and your right all Volvos low warning buzzer only sounds when engin is running. 1.static pressure no more than 3psi in one min. 2.apply pressure no more than 4psi in one min. 3.low warning buzzer or light 4.emergency set up 5.rebuild air pressure 6.Gov. Cut in 7.Gov.Cut out 8.all brake tug test 9. Tractor tug test 10.trailer tug test 11.trolly tug test 12. Roll service brake test.. Texas..
Congratulations 🎉🎊🍾
@@truckerstevecdlinstructor thank you..next will be all my endorsements, Hazmat, doubles, and tanker.. thanks for your videos they are extremely helpful..
Hello sir
A BIG HI to you.
I’m good on everything except downshifting. I probably get a good downshift like 60% of the time. The other 40% I miss the gear and don’t recover it in time. I follow all of the steps properly but end up grinding a lot of the time. Do you think it’s because I’m just pushing the clutch too far? I test on everything the 19th and I’m done with my road time at school so I’m trying to figure out where I’m making my mistakes
Today is the June 9, TH. - You will not be in a Tractor Trailer until your test date (June 19, Th.) . Yes, you may be pushing the clutch in to far or your timing is OFF. The FMCSA states that if a student is not Proficient in all SKILLS, the CDL School should not set that student up for testing. How many Hours of ROAD Training did you receive? Are you proficient in all RANGE SKILLS? Before your CDL Test, go to the FMCSA Web Site and print out your Records that your CDL School submitted to the FMCSA. Is the report correct? Don't want to upset you, but many CDL Students don't stand up to their CDL Schools. Your CDL Instructor should get you on track with your downshifting. You need more road time. Hopefully you will figure it out.
@@truckerstevecdlinstructor not upsetting at all. We’re allotted 10 hrs of road time, I go on their weekend classes cuz of work. I called them and left a message about getting more road time before my test and I’m going to call again tomorrow if they don’t respond by then. All of my instructors have told me “there’s no reason you shouldn’t pass your test” but I feel like I should be getting my downshifts perfectly like I do my upshifting before my test. I have my pretrip and Air Loss down and all of my backing is perfect. The only thing that gives me trouble every now and then is my downshifting. We do all of our road time with a tractor trailer. Dont get me wrong I can downshift but I don’t get it every single time (so maybe I can’t downshift) thank you for your feedback I will continue to be in touch with my school. Probably half of the class is still struggling with their maneuvers so I’m sure they’re having a hard time on the road as well. I’m probably one of the better student on the road. Just want to be totally confident going into that test
Long Story Short
Great information Steve I have a Question for you I'm at the shipper do I go off-duty during my load or sleeper birth?
You are on duty not driving unless during this period, you are not responsible for the tractor trailer being loaded. If you have to be available to the shipper during this period, you are on duty. If not, let the shipper know that you will be taking a break for a period of time.
Lay off the grass and the alcohol oh and the pills not worth it in the short run no OTR for you!
Alcohol is legal. You can drink as much as you want as long as you are sober when on duty.
Well done
I agree with you 💯
We have the tightest dock on the yard it made every other place look easy! The vets taught me So I lucked up!
wasn't it always that way?
Now you will be offended a treatment program but your license will not be suspended. In November, your license will be suspended. The driver will have to go through the process of getting the license back.
@@truckerstevecdlinstructor that low key crazy yet i can drink off duty at home 😂
@@rigobertoespinoza1685 talking hard drugs. Going to work drunk, will most likely get you fired.
@@truckerstevecdlinstructor of course 100% showing up drunk is a no no im on your side. Im just saying is THC considered a hard drug.
@@rigobertoespinoza1685I could probably Google it, but do they have a way to measure the amount in your system like alcohol? As more states legalize it, I’m sure there will become a way to test and everything will be based off of that. Although I may be wrong and I don’t do anything anymore and only drive a few months a year on a part time schedule to help my old boss.
Thanks uncle Steve I’m in full compliance but what if u get a tinted window ticket? I’m hearing we can have tints for privacy is it true
Only can Tint so much on a car. Just that when you going after a trucking job most companies will want to review your driving history. Are you a safe driver or a driver with a Lots of Points.
Personal vehicle does not effect work ! I just got my cdl April 5th
Get a ticket in your car - you have a CDL license. That is on your CDL Driving history. Yes, it’s does effect or may have an effect on getting a CDL job
Just like a .04 is considered illegally intoxicated in a POV and affects your CDL.
If you go over 15 mph the speed limit on a work road or a school zone in your personal vehicle you WILL get your license suspended. So yes, personal vehicle DOES affect work.
Complete compliance!
I suppose like many drivers, my uncle who did years on the road, did this sort of thing for a living. Backing up every truckers truck into bays.
Full video of getting the truck in the box please!!
Have over 20 videos with the new range skills - getting the trailer into the box. Short and long videos.
Best video so far, calm, composed tutorial, fully explaining how the trailer reacts , how your make small adjustments, and an excellent video. Got my CDL in 2021, but I've learnt over the years never stop learning.
Thank you 🙏 for your kind words. The Old Man 👴 does the best he can.
@@truckerstevecdlinstructor I'm going for my Class 1 AZ license next month, I started "pre looking" for trucking jobs in Canada, everything requires me to have 2-4 years experience, how do I find a job trucking when they won't get new guys a chance? Should I truck in the states for awhile?
@@seanbriggs3386 food delivery; UPS - package delivery then to UPS Tractor Trailer ( they will retrain you) Look for a job that fits your needs. Hopefully 🤞 you will find a job.
@@seanbriggs3386 your CDL school may or should be of help with finding a job. If the travel time to the US will not be costing you too much money, Yes.
You no show the brake pump and no show you me fire slender
OMGGGGGGGG ❤❤❤❤. I literally failed my skills test 5 times on the old maneuvers. My instructors failed me so much. They weren't teaching us much and when we made mistakes they didn't care to help us fix it so I was transferred to the new maneuvers. Again they were failing me because they weren't properly teaching me but I said I wasn't gonna test again until I was ready. I viewed this particular video for 2 weeks in a row at least 10 times a day. I took my skills test again for the 6th time and passed with flying colors because of your videos. I truly appreciate you. I wish you were my instructor I would've passed on the first try. Thank you so much ❤🎉
Congratulations 🎉🍾🎈
Hey trucker Steve.. just passed my road test today with flying colors. Your videos helped me big time.. I’ve only been training for 6 days with only 4 hours of road time… just wanted to say thanks
Congratulations 🎉❤
This is the way it is where I work now. I just got my CDL, so I'm not driving tractor trailers just yet, but I've been with the company driving straight trucks (no air brakes) for awhile and have trained numerous people along the way. Almost without exception, these people fall in with the laziest in the company and don't even bother doing pre-trips eventually. It's pathetic.
Thank you for your comment.
Passed my CDL test last Friday on the first try for all of it. I feel so relieved lol it was a 3 week accelerated course. Definitely not for everyone but definitely worth it.
BIG Congratulations to you! 🍾🎉
This is of great help. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. Very informative. Best one I’ve seen. Thank YOU!
any tips on reversing? i have issues with letting off the clutch too hard and the truck jumps, thanks
If you are on flat ground - vehicle is not moving - clutch is in - foot on the brake - come gently off the clutch until you feel a slight pull - that is the spot where if you come off the brake the vehicle will move. Hold that spot and slowly release the brake and slowly release the clutch. This should be practice on the range - clutch control - I teach this on the first day when a student gets into the tractor. Ask your instructor to teach you clutch control- moving the tractor forward and backwards
@@truckerstevecdlinstructor what ive been doing is using the clutch alone, no brakes until i need to come to a full stop. do i just need to let off of the clutch entirely and then use clutch+brake when i need to slow down?
@@bennywenny_ If you are on flat ground and the tractor is not moving and will not move with your foot off the brake - then yes keep your foot off the brake and use the clutch to move forward or backwards. As you come slowly off the brake and the tractor trailer is moving - it’s roll - roll and gently off the clutch. Or as soon as it’s moving- gently off the clutch in 2 seconds Your instructor needs to teach you how to do this.
Hey uncle steve. What if you had surgery and you get tested shortly after surgery and you come up dirty. Can you tell them that you just had surgery and what meds your on
Before you go to get tested, have a print out of all Meds. Make sure the tester records what you received at the hospital and what you normally take.
@truckerstevecdlinstructor thank you, that's what I always do
Will I get tested before I even take the driving test I have my permit and have been training I stopped smoking weed already I should be clean by the time I can get hired once I get my license Is that the only time I’d be tested is once I’m hired somewhere?
@@slabman2997 CDL school should send you for a drug test and who ever hire you will also have you tested again.
If they do hair follicle test it will show all the way back a whole year.
